Our Current Issue
April 2026
Welcome to our latest issue of The Root E-Magazine! March has blown past us – it definitely came in “like a lion”, gave us a few wonderful days of spring, a dash of winter, and, for better or for worse, a solid taste of summer. But gardening goes on! In this issue, we have the third part of our three-part series on growing roses. This part discusses the three most common rose diseases found in the DFW area and what you can do to reduce the likelihood of seeing them in your garden. The DCMGA 2026 Garden Tour is coming in May – and inside this issue, we introduce you to our two public gardens on the tour as well as the many activities they will have for you and your families on May 9th. Our “Plant of the Month” in April is the wonderful, tough Texas sage, and “In the Veggie Patch” will show you how to grow Asian Long Beans – something a little different than your regular green beans! And if you have grown vegetables long enough in Texas, you’ve met a cutworm. Learn more about managing these pests/predators around your young plants using ecologically friendly techniques. Then there’s Gardening Grandma (can you use spices in your garden?), the Help Desk Q&A, and – don’t forget – it’s time for the DCMGA Plant Sale on April 25th at the North Texas Fairgrounds!! Get there early and shop your favorites!
