Digging Deep, Blooming Bright: Celebrating Our Successes!
DCMGA is proud to serve our community with a vision to grow a healthier, greener Denton County. Our mission is to educate and inspire residents through research-based horticulture, promoting eco-friendly gardens and enduring landscapes that enrich our communities. We’re excited to share some of our members’ remarkable achievements in pursuing this vision and mission!
DCMGA's Volunteer Impact
In 2024, the Denton County Master Gardener Association (DCMGA) made a remarkable impact, contributing 34,682 volunteer hours—81% dedicated to community education and engagement through 41 meaningful projects! Their efforts were part of a larger contribution by Denton County AgriLife Extension Service volunteers, who gave an incredible 76,707 hours valued at $2,569,000. DCMGA’s dedication accounted for 45% of those hours, equating to $1,161,500 in value to the community! Their hard work and commitment were even recognized by the Denton County Commissioners Court, highlighting their vital role in making Denton County greener, more knowledgeable, and more connected.
Growing Excellence: DCMGA Blooms with Five Wins!
We’re thrilled to share that DCMGA won awards for all five of our entries in the Texas Master Gardener Association’s “Search for Excellence” awards! Competing in the 200+ member Live Oak category, our amazing volunteers stood out. We received 1st place for three of our entries: the “Workshop-Presentation” award for our Earth-Kind® Design Workshops, the “Teaching Site” award for our Roots for Wings in Lewisville, and our own Russ Allen (Class of 2023) received the top honor for “Outstanding Member.” DCMGA also placed 2nd for the other two entries: the “Outstanding Association” award for our dedication to a greener Denton County, with our volunteers contributing 34,682 service hours in 2024, and for the “Youth-Other” award to our SWAt Team with their Solar Eclipse Program. Special thanks to the DCMGA Awards Committee and our supportive community. Together, we’re making Denton County more vibrant and sustainable. Let’s keep growing for a brighter future!
Unveiling Beauty, Learning, and Community at Our 2025 Garden Tour!
What an incredible day we had on Saturday, May 10, at our annual Garden Tour! Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather as 2,384 visitors explored four stunning Master Gardeners’ home gardens and Shiloh Fields Community Garden. A huge thank you to the homeowners for opening your gardens to the community. And let’s not forget the Garden Tour Team and all the dedicated volunteers who made this event possible! One hundred and twenty-five volunteers on Tour Day ensured every visitor had an incredible experience. Our members dedicated more than 6,000 hours over several months preparing these inspiring educational experiences. Thank you to our visitors and members for making this event unforgettable!
The 2025 Plant Sale: A New Location and A New Record!
This year brought a big change for our Annual Plant Sale–a brand new location at the North Texas Fairgrounds. Despite some initial concerns that our patrons wouldn’t be able to find us and adjusting to new logistics and a much bigger space–the 2025 Plant Sale was a massive success. Preparation began in late 2024 with securing the venue and modifying our game plan to fit. We were able to fill the Fairgrounds with over 8,000 plants, 3,000 of them coming from DCGMA members. On prep and sale day, over 350 volunteers helped unload, check, price, and arrange plants and then assist customers, who lined up early! Highlights included a huge selection of Texas native plants, a wide variety of succulents, and a stunning rose selection. The sale saw our highest grossing amount ever, funding DCMGA’s community outreach and educational programs for the year. Thanks to each and every one of you who supported us. Here’s to another successful Plant Sale in 2026, and a huge thank you to North Texas Fairgrounds for hosting us. What an amazing event promoting eco-friendly gardens and enduring landscapes that enrich our communities.
