DESCRIPTION:The first Meeting date\, February 19\, 2026 will be the Kick-off Meeting for this New Project.  This meeting will be to encourage DCMGA members to participate as either Team Leads or Team Volunteers for this project. \nSubsequent meetings for this project will be the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month from 1:00pm – 3:00pm through October 1\, 2026 for Volunteer Team Members.  These meetings will be a combination of Project Team updates and working in the Doubletree Ranch garden beds to get them ready for the event day. \nVillage Fest is a large-scale educational event designed to deliver a collaborative public outreach experience to Denton County residents. There will be Main stage and small stage Speakers delivering research-based Horticultural and Nature based presentations as well as interactive\, educational booths\, hands-on demonstrations\, and vendor booths to appeal to attendees of all ages. The event is strategically hosted at Doubletree Ranch Park at 310 Highland Village Rd.\, Highland Village\, Texas\, Saturday October 3\, 2026 from 9am – 3pm.\nSet-up day for Members only will be Friday October 2\, 2026 from 9am – 3pm.

DESCRIPTION:Denton Youth Fair is a county fair for FFA and 4H youth ages 8-18.  The Volunteer opportunity is to act as a docent for the first hour\, then help entrants pick up their projects when public viewing is done.  Afterwards\, table supplies are packed up. \nAll supplies are provided.  Indoors\, but may need a jacket if it is chilly.

DESCRIPTION:What to Bring: Gloves\, a hat\, a couple of your favorite garden hand tools\, and something to kneel on. When it gets a little warmer\, bring sunscreen\nand bug repellent. We keep larger tools in our shed: shovels\, rakes\, etc. You generally don’t need to bring those. Sometimes we do have special projects that need tools we don’t have in the shed. I will let y’all know when to bring your long-handled garden tools.

DESCRIPTION:We are off to a good start with the Roots for Wings Demonstration Garden. \nIn 2024 we will have a workday the first Monday. \nWe will have an AT/CE component during the workdays. If inclement weather\, not dangerous weather\, we will meet in the LAS building and have AT/CE for the duration. We will begin with working in the gardens and then move to the LAS classroom for the AT/CEU. \nPlease provide your cell number so we can get the word out if there is any major change in plans…it is faster than email. \nBring regular garden tools\, gloves\, kneeler\, water\, bug spray. \nPark along the road or in the parking lot across from LAS.

DESCRIPTION:~Learn about trees!\n~Volunteer to improve our urban forest! \nApplication deadline – December 31\, 2025.\nThe Citizen Forester program is sponsored by the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council\, a non-profit organization\, focused on publicly owned trees. Trained volunteers work in public areas including city parks\, street trees\, public school yards\, etc. We provide public education through presentations and booth events. Our goal is to help communities reap the benefits of trees in the urban environment in a responsible manner.\nThe program consists of training every other Tuesday from February 10th through May 5th\, consisting of in-house instruction and outdoor field exercises. \nIn-classroom training will be held at the Herring Recreation Center\, Multi-\nPurpose Room\, 191 Civic Cir\, Lewisville. Field exercises will be announced at a later date. \nCertified Arborists and Foresters will conduct training which includes tree identification\, propagation\, planting\, pruning\, pest and tree diseases and hazard assessment. \nYou will never look at a tree the same way again!\nGo to ctufc.org to learn more about the Citizen Forester Program and click on “Apply to become a Citizen Forester” for the application.
