All project managers are requested to submit any pictures

drop them off in the box provided at the extension office or e-mail them to
Susan.
Remember to start preparing for the Fall Plant Sale and
Fundraiser. As you complete your spring cleanup and plant thinning, pot
those extras "pass-alongs" for sale this fall. Your plant donations can be
"baby-sat" for you during the hot summer months at two different locations.
For members living north of Lake Lewisville, contact Gene
Gumfory at (940) 367-0221 or genegumfory@earthlink.net. Please contact Gene
first to be sure he is home before delivering any plants.
If you live south of Lake Lewisville, LISDOLA will be
housing our donated pants. Already potted plants may be placed in the
all-mulch bed ; a bed of soil and dyno-dirt has been created to maintain
those plants not in pots. If neither location is convenient for you, please
contact Karen Archambault, (972) 874-8005 or
kladba@comcast.net.
Due to the State Conference being hosted by DCMGA this
month, there will be no monthly general meeting. Members will have the
opportunity to earn twelve hours of advanced training credit during the
conference.
The Collin County Master Gardeners have extended an
invitation to us to attend their monthly general meeting on Thursday, June
23, 7:00 PM at the Science/Research Building, Heard Museum, McKinney. Dr.
Cecil Pounders will be the featured speaker on "The Sex Life of Petunias and
Bananas." (Maybe we need to investigate what's going on in Collin County!)
Training Opportunities
On Saturday, June 25, there will be a 2005 Crape Myrtle
Conference, hosted by the Crape Myrtle Society of America, in partnership
with Carpe Myrtle Trails of McKinney and the Texas Cooperative Extension. It
will be held at Collin County Community College in McKinney. The conference
starts at 8:00 AM and the cost per attendee is $45.00. On site late
registration is $50.00 and subject to availability.
Master Gardeners can earn four advanced training hours for
conference attendance. Speakers will be Dr. Margaret Pooler, Research
Geneticist with USDA, David Byers, grower and author of Crape Myrtle A
Grower's Thoughts, Dr. Raul Cabrera, conducting crape myrtle research at
Texas A&M Dallas, Dr. David Creech, Stephen F. Austin State University and
more.
We've had a good month at the Children's Garden. We've
planted strawberries, onions, Celebrity tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell
peppers, broccoli, cabbage, Swiss chard, romaine lettuce, radishes, beets,
peas, beans, cucumbers, birdhouse gourds, carrots, Swiss chard, corn, herbs
and some flowers. We are beginning to harvest some white icicle radishes.
The kids are thrilled to take something home form the garden! We have
decided to open the garden up to elementary school kids and seek how it
goes. My neighbor children are very excited about participating, and we
think some older kids will enrich the experience for everyone.

Come by and see all the spring flowers growing at the
Bayless-Selby House. The iris and roses are outstanding!
We have had two workdays, sprucing up before the State
Conference (Bayless-Selby is on a tour). In May, the regular workday is the
third Wednesday, May 18, 9:00, AM; June's workday will be Wednesday, June
15, 9:00, AM. Volunteers are welcome to work at any time in the gardens or
participate on scheduled workdays. The Park is at the intersection of
Mulberry and Carroll Streets in Denton. Bring your gardening tools and come
and join the team!

Highland Village Elementary Outdoor Classroom is looking great! We have
started a butterfly garden, sensory garden, native grass area, wildlife
area, and a weather station. Most of the plants and areas are labeled the
kindergarten classes planted strawberries in the raised beds and the first
grade planted radishes, bush beans and native plants. Fifth graders will
plant red, white, and blue plants in and around a large star built with
concrete edging stones. Fourth graders will conduct weather experiments. We
are working on getting more birdhouses and an entrance arbor built.
