Denton County Master Gardeners contribute many volunteer hours to help schools, churches, businesses and citizens with all types of gardening projects.  Click on any of the underlined projects to find out more.

 

Ask a Master Gardener Booth - Provides question/answer booth at various events throughout the county as requested.

Children's Arbor Day (Denton) - Annual event

Clear Creek Natural Heritage Area - Developing a landscape for space in front of learning center in conjunction with Master Naturalists

Consultation (House/Site Visit) - Over the last few years, Master Gardeners have provided plant, tree and lawn consultations for hundreds of Denton County homeowners.

Cool Shade for the Third Grade (Lewisville ISD)

Dallas Arboretum - Support horticulture staff at Dallas Arboretum with various gardening and research tasks as needed

Dallas Water Wise Tour - Hosting information desk and docent tour through gardens at Upper Trinity Regional Water District.

Denton County Livestock Association (DCLA) Youth Fair 

DCSWCD Tree Seedling Distribution - Help distribute seedlings to Denton County residents who purchased these seedlings.

Fairoaks Independent Living Center

Flower Mound Arboretum - In planning stage

Flower Mound Community Garden - Help develop community garden on Green Acres property off Simmons Road - in planning stage

Flower Mound Environmental Fair - Feature composting and environmentally friendly plants for North Texas, including Earthkind roses and Texas Superstars at Master Gardener booth.

Garden Infofest - Free educational and informational event offering horticulture related workshops, children's activities, publications, DCMGA merchandise, and vendor merchandise to the public.  October 3, 2009

Help Desk - Located at the extension office in Denton.  Assist county residents to identify and solve gardening questions.  Staffed by Master Gardener volunteers based on their availability.  Phone number is 940-349-2892.

Junior Master Gardener Program/S.W.A.T. - Coordinate implementaion of JMG into county schools and other children's programs as requested.  All Outdoor Learning Areas at schools are coordinated through JMG/SWAT (Science With An Attitude).

Keep Argyle Beautiful Festival - Annual event

Keep Lewisville Beautiful - Smartscape - Speakers at this annual event will focus this year on organic gardening.  It will be held at Upper Trinity Regional Water District.

Lewisville ISD Outdoor Learning Area - All LISD fourth graders and many others take field trips to this location.  Master Gardener installations include wildscape habitat, butterfly larval host plant garden, a wildflower area, a pond, rose, shade and herb gardens, grass demonstration area and a bird feeding station.

Little Hands on the Farm at the State Fair of Texas - Annual event

Library Series - Spring and fall educational series at various libraries throughout the county

Master Gardener Spring Garden Tour  - Annual event featuring Master Gardeners' personal gardens and highlighting various educational aspects of each.

Master Gardener Plant Sale - Annual event; location varies.

Red Bud Days  - Annual event in April.  Display educational information and answer questions for public.  Located on courthouse square downtown Denton.  For more information, go to  http://www.kdb.org/redbud_festival.shtml

Riding the Rails - Educational event for elementary students who ride to five learning stations for reading, math and science on garden train in Master Gardener's personal garden.

Speakers Bureau - Various locations in Denton County as requested.

Upper Trinity Regional Water District - Will revisit demonstration gardens to make recommendations on replacement needs.

Vegetable, Flower and Herb and Fruit Show - Held in June each year to allow Denton County residents an opportunity to enter their personally-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for judging.

Watershed Advanced Training - Upper Trinity and Dottie Woodson have trained 15 Master Gardeners from Denton County to give presentations regarding watershed protection as well as docent tours of UTRWD gardens.
